i feel like october should just be renamed "the month of halloween," because it has become a month long party-palooza! my kids have done "hat-o-ween," trunk or treat, parades, parties, trick or treating in downtown venice, pumpkin festival at hunsader's farm in bradenton, and fall festival...for a one-day meaningless holiday (atleast in our family it's meaningless)...i can stomach a lot of it because of the costumes--my kids LOVE costumes and wear them year round! but still--the month long candy blitz...the avoiding driving on certain streets around town because of ghoulish decorations, the trying to explain what it is we're actually celebrating...needless to say, tomorrow the "month of halloween" decorations come down and the CHRISTMAS boxes come out!!! yes, that's right! here's miss lilly with her homemade hat for "hat-o'ween" at her school--she had fun making the hat with ty and me and had fun wearing it too!
bella had observation week for ballet last week--this was a riot to watch!!! the girls all had fun, but i'm not so sure any ballet was had...

ty and his buddy at the fall festival at his school--our agenda this day:eat cookies, popcorn, candy, and shrug off playing any actual carnival games...i bet we end up at the dentist in november :)
we made a trek to v-town to visit mimi and poppy and it turned out to be MUCH more eventful than i could have imagined...here's where it's calm, lilly is sitting nicely in mimi's office before the costume parade...

and here's ty--the representative from our clan in the parade...check out that physique!!

so after the parade, when all my kids were safely tucked into classrooms or on the playground, i sat in my mom's office playing on the computer. i got up a few times to use the restroom and noticed a funny smell in the hallway by an empty classroom, but it wasn't enough to provoke a closer look. on another trip to the bathroom (the HOLY SPIRIT was sitting on my bladder this morning to get me to walk by this classroom a bunch of times!) i smelled the smell--a little smoky--and then i heard a teeny crack--like a log popping on a fire. i poked my head in the classroom door and the entire wall was ON FIRE!!!!! a section about 5-6 feet wide and the flames were reaching up to the ceiling!! all the kids' papers that were stuck to the front of the cabinets were flaming and smoking and the offending pumpkin was charring on the counter. i ran into the hallway and yelled at mom to call 911 and then headed for the kitchen to find an extinguisher...note to everyone: CHECK THE PIN!!!!!! this one was sealed and i had to rip it hard to get the seal off! i made it to the room in like 2 seconds, finally got the pin out and just started spraying. debi had been in there trying to put it out with a pillow and then after i sprayed, faye followed with another extinguisher and sprayed some more. by that time we were choking on smoke and had to get out. the firemen arrived shortly thereafter and said another few seconds and whole room would have been toast! lots of paper and fabric! (it is a preschool after all!) PRAISE JESUS that every kid was out of that building in a hurry! that no one was hurt! that the damage was so minimal because we found it when we did! that the sprinklers didn't go off--that would have damaged the entire building! that i had to pee and heard the pop--because the smoke alarm didn't go off until after i told mom to call 911...
poppy drove over and he and james seized the moment--jamesy LOVES fire engines!!! he was also wearing his fire engine shirt that day! the firemen were really cute with him--he was starstruck!
the under side of the cabinet
some charred clipboard papers and other assorted items...
the wall here looks clean because the charred bulletin board had been taken down
the pumpkin was right in front of the charred spot on the counter
here are our pix from hunsader's farm pumpkin festival--which was fantastic!!! they had a ton for the kids to to--petting farm, pony rides, tractor train rides, games, a corn maze, live entertainment, you name it! we had a great time!
oh, and if this kid doesn't grow up to be a veterinarian...she absolutely ADORES animals!!!

the pony rides were a hit!

lilly and ty went sky-jumping, which they both loved--i was so shocked that lilly chose to do it--this has traditionally been my kid who testing the water in a puddle for depth before jumping over! but she was giddy!!

and i have video of ty, but i didn't manage to get any still shots of him...bummer!!
here's LIJT on the tractor train--jamesy HATED it!! we got him off half way thru and then what do you think that kid whined about all the way to the car??? "i want to ride the traaiinn!!!!" waaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!

our final "month of halloween" event was trick or treating in downtown venice, which was awesome! so awesome that the whole county came out with their kids!! but our guys had fun and it was so un-halloweeny that i think we will do it again if we're there next year!!

jamie's folks' business is on the avenue and pop's woody was parked out front--we couldn't resist a photo! miss you j!!!!

thanks mom and dad for a great--albeit exciting--weekend! we had so much fun! cheers!!
